SUPER SLOW MO CANON 7D FOOTAGE

Just saw this video on Vimeo. but I’m putting up the youtube version because it wasn’t uploaded in HD. Someone’s not a plus member : (

Here’s the shakedown. The video was shot on the 7d in 60p BUT then resampled to super slow-mo at 240p. Looks surprisingly awesome - (though I wonder how it would look on a movie screen or even a 60″ plasma.)

EyePatchEntertainment (the creators of the video) haven’t spilled their post processing trade secret, though I’m guessing this is the work of Twixtor.

But they did confirm that they were able to get such a nice retimed video by shooting at 60p with a fast shutter.

REEL GUYZ GOT A BLOG

So we got feedback from all over, and we now see that most viewers are either gonna be tech guys or reel guyz. You’re either at the website because you want to know about the latest greatest in DSLRs, or you think it’s funny that we made a comic that re-imagined Home Alone in a gruesome way.

Few people like both equally the same. So, it’s time for a schism - like when Europe said, “Hey, America, we’re going with PAL.” And America got all defensive and was like, “Whatevs Europe, we’re staying with NTSC.” (here’s a metaphor for the reel guyz - like that part in Hook where they draw a line and you’re either for Peter Pan or Rufio.)

So here it is - ReelGuyz.com - a place where Cuba Gooding Jr. is a god and everyone gets 72 Wendy Peffercorn clones when they die.

Reel Guyz

To all the tech guys - this blog just became 5 times more techie
To all the reel guyz - we’ll see you on the other side

To all the people who like both equally the same - Let’s become facebook friends and then meet in real life…

NEWSFLASH: CANON TO CHALLENGE RED - SEPT. 29TH

Do not buy a 7D yet! I REPEAT, do not buy a Canon 7D yet.

This is just in and it can only mean one thing.
september29

Canon will challenge the Red camera…. most likely the Red Scarlett.

For those of you who don’t speak the native tongue of Sweden, let me translate.

Mark the calendar

During this fall, Canon will make one of its largest and most important launches in the company’s history and we hope you can attend. During a luncheon, you are invited to listen to CEO Jouko Tuouminen, Marketing presiden Monica Forsberg and trend analyst Magnus Lindkvist, talking about tomorrows trends and factors of success in the continually more digitalized everyday life.

Date: september 29
Time: 11 am- 1pm

An invitation including more information will come soon.
- ala Canon Rumors

The box is draped in red. Coincidence? I think not… CORRECTION: Alain P from Canon 5d Tips pointed out that red is also Canon’s color… So the color of the draping is just a brand thing… OR maybe it’s also a sign of blood (because blood is red unless you’re Spock)… the blood to come between Canon and Red

“Canon will make one of its largest and most important launches in the company’s history?”
Umm… unless they’re launching a new lens that can also create Archimedes like death rays, I’m so sure that this must be a new video DSLR camera that will just blow us the hell away. I just have a gut feeling about it… it’s so strong… (but when I was five I also had a gut feeling that Pee Wee Herman would be president… didn’t turn out that way… Or maybe it did?)

Whatevs…This fall RED and Canon will go head to head. Who will win?

More reporting to come. STAY TUNED

HITLER ÜBER PISSED ABOUT CANON 7D

We’re a little late on this meme… but in our defense it feels like a new Hitler Downfall video is coming out every week.

IF DSLR FILMMAKING WASN’T HUGE, WOULD THERE BE A CONFERENCE?

collisionconferenceThe 1st annual Collision Conference in Hollywood just took place, and there’s a lot of buzz in the filmmaking world about the future of digital cinematography. A lot of big names in the industry showed up to put in their two cents, including the now famous Vincent Laforet (made famous by Reverie, one of the very first 5D short films) and “Terminator Salvation” DP Shane Hurlbut, whom was rumored to have been inter-cutting 5D footage into the film. Shane is also the man that Christian Bale freaked out at on set, if any of you remember that from a while back…

Anyways, the conference was basically 2 days of education for photographers and videographers on how their worlds are now converging in on one another and how they can be ahead of the game with this new digital revolution. Man, wish I could have been there… But one quote that stood out to me that was stated at the conference that I believe will always ring true was this:

“Filmmakers, you are now photographers. Photographers you’re not filmmakers now…”

DSLR DESIRES: 1 OF 5 - PANAVISION LENS MOUNT

2hxvvao27105166panavision-lens-to-canon-eos-lens-mount-adapter-agbkblog

One very hot topic in the DSLR film world is the coveted PV to EOS lens mount (or Panavision to Canon). We’ve blogged about this before, but now we have a lot more information! In turn, now you will have more information!

As we have mentioned before, the fore runner of the PV to EOS mount is “24″ cinematographer Rodney Charters. Rodney and his crew have been working on a “unknown” promo shoot that I came to find out is called “Indian Gangster.” Check it out on Twitter! They have been busy mounting all kinds of lenses on a 5D.

Oh, but there’s more!!

PRODUCT REVIEW: MANFROTTO 3-IN-1 MODOSTEADY

As a rule of thumb, I have always been impressed by Bogan/Manfrotto products. Their camera support systems have always been simple and effective. So, when I saw this camera stabilizer above, I thought it would be worth it to buy and try out. I got it in the mail earlier this week and went ahead and tested it out with the 5D Mark II.

Let’s just say, it kind of ruined my faith in Manfrotto…

5 THINGS I WANT FOR MY DSLR: AN ONGOING REPORT

thumb

With the introduction of a variety of DSLR cameras that support HD video, many companies have been on the fast track to get you the coolest, craziest, and cheapest accessories from your filmmaking needs. There are camera support rigs, dollies, adapters, viewfinders and countless other “additions” for productions of any type.

But as filmmakers, what do we want to see with our DSLRs? What have we been craving to see happen that would take our stories to the next level? Well, we have compiled a list of the top things filmmakers have been interested in:

1) The Panavision Lens Mount - We know it’s out there, but how does it work? How can we benefit?
2) XLR Inputs - Syncing audio can be a pain in the ass… What’s out there to help?
3) DSLR 3-D - Is it possible to shoot 3-D with DSLRs? Two of them together? We’ll find out for you.
4) Anamorphic Converter - Hollywood is doing it, why can’t we? Believe it, it is possible…
5) Underwater Housing - We’ll find the best one for your next James Cameron impersonation.

Join us for the next couple weeks as we investigate, probe, search, and ponder about how we can achieve these things and more to get us going on the DSLR revolution! Check back here and tell all your friends!

CANON 7D MANUAL REVIEW - UPDATE***

ala canonrumors

Check out the manual and see all the cool new features. The 7D is on the run.

MANUAL HERE

UPDATE*** Below

MY BIGGEST QUALM - So i’m flipping through the manual and I just happened upon page 177. My biggest qualm right now is that even though there is an HDMI out, I can’t view it on the LCD and a separate screen at the same time. Does anyone know a workaround? It would be nice to have a camera operator and an AC with their own screens to look at while shooting. Such a bummer.
